CarbonSAFE Eos: Developing Commercial Sequestration for Southern Colorado: $32,676,704

A collaboration among Colorado School of Mines, Carbon America, and Los Alamos National Laboratory, CarbonSAFE Eos aims to develop a regional geologic carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration hub in Pueblo to address emissions from diverse sources including cement, hydrogen and power in the near term and create opportunities for long-term economic benefit. The team aims for Eos to become a model of community-centric Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects on a national scale. The team’s planned activities include establishing an advisory board to provide feedback on potential community benefits agreements; collaboratively creating a system for identifying and tracking the flows of project benefits to stakeholders, including historically disadvantaged communities; providing meaningful employment, training, and educational opportunities; following best practices for local hiring and working with diverse contractors; and establishing a platform to catalyze local dialogues about the intertwined environmental, economic, social, and technological opportunities and challenges that decarbonization poses for the region.
